A New Era for Sports in the Dominican Republic

The Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto, a state-of-the-art multi-purpose arena in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, was officially inaugurated today. The 8,337-seat arena will host a variety of sporting events, including basketball, volleyball, and boxing.
The arena is named after Virgilio Travieso Soto, a legendary Dominican basketball player who won two Olympic medals and was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame. The arena is part of the Centro OlÃmpico Juan Pablo Duarte, a major sports complex in Santo Domingo.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by President Luis Abinader, Minister of Sports Francisco Camacho, and other government officials. President Abinader praised the arena as a "symbol of the Dominican Republic's commitment to sports." Minister Camacho said the arena would "help to develop sports in the country and attract international competitions."
The Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto is expected to be a major venue for the 2023 Pan American Games, which will be held in Santo Domingo. The arena will also be used to host concerts and other events.
